Have you heard of Dry Oil for Oily Skin?

Updated: Jun 10, 2019

Let me start by asking you a question. What characteristics should your ideal skincare facial oil have? I bet they are all of these:

  • Moisturizing

  • Lightweight

  • Non-Greasy

  • Rapidly absorbs

  • Anti-aging properties

  • Adds glow

  • Calming

  • Non pore-clogging

But usually we end up with oils which are thick and make you look like a grease pan.

So once again, have you heard of Dry Oils?

A dry oil is referred to an oil which is lightweight yet has amazing moisturizing properties. These oils are less viscous, more fluid, rapidly absorb into the skin and do not give a greasy look or sit on top of your skin.

Typically people with Oily skin, tend to run away from oils in general. But you still need moisture to keep your natural skin barrier healthy. This is where Dry Oils are incredibly nourishing on many levels and are actually food for your skin. Now you must be wondering, there are so many oils, how do I know which one is a dry oil? Don’t worry, Im here to help you bust some myths and make better skincare decisions.

100% cold pressed oil from the hemp seeds
Oil is extracted from these Hemp Seeds

Hemp Seed Oil

This oil has a cult following and has numerous benefits. However, donot confuse it with the Recreational drug – Marijuana. 'Cannabis Sativa' is the scientific name for Hemp Plant. Hemp and Marijuana are both plants from the Cannabis Sativa family. Hemp leaf is mainly used for industrial purposes e.g. textiles, ropes, paper and more. The seeds however, are particularly excellent for extracting oil. This oil is non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating as the seeds donot contain ‘tetrahydrocannabinol’ (THC). [THC is the component that contains psychoactive properties].

Now that we learnt that Hemp Seed Oil is safe and non-psychoactive, let’s learn the extraction process.

You must ensure that any skincare oil, must be 100% cold pressed.

What is 100% cold pressed oil?

There are different methods used to extract oils e.g. expeller-pressed, solvent extraction, steam distillation etc. Most of these aforementioned methods use heat or chemicals at very high temperatures to extract oils. As a result, heat alters the properties and nutrients of the oil. 100% cold pressed oils are processed at lower temperatures, and therefore restore all the effective nutrients and benefits of the oils.
