Get acquainted with the gorgeous blue oils

Our Laguna gets its gorgeous green-blue hue from the blue essential oils infused in it. Chamomile is known for its calming and balancing properties. But there are many essential oils in the Chamomile family. Two such oils are infused in Laguna– German Chamomile and Moroccan Chamomile (also known as Blue Tansy). Each chamomile is a different variety, however they all have similar constituents as well as some likeness in appearance.

German Chamomile (Matricaria Recutita) is also known as blue chamomile because of its gorgeous deep azure colour. This striking color is due to the presence of a substance called chamazulene, which is a strong anti-inflammatory agent. This essential oil has a sweet, herbaceous and camphor like fragrance and is extracted from the flowering tops by steam distillation process. Blue chamomile is superbly effective when it comes to skin, as it is not only soothing and calming, but also heals and helps in tissue regeneration.

Moroccan Chamomile (Tanacetum Annum) also known as Blue Tansy is extracted from steam distillation of the fresh flowering tops. It has a beautiful deep blue color due to the presence of a substance called chemazulene obtained during steam distillation process. The high quantity of azulene gives Blue Tansy Oil the ability to heal burns, blisters, acne, boils, dermatitis, eczema and rashes. It has a warm herbaceous and sweet aroma.

Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium) is also blue color oil which is one of the most powerful astringents. It shrinks the pores and promotes skin healing. It is a powerful anti-oxidant , anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-septic, and is helpful in regenerating skin cells. Yarrow’s flowering tops go through steam distillation to extract the oils, and releases chemazulene during this process which lends the beautiful blue color. If you thought that the family name "Achillea" looks familiar, you are right. It comes from the ancient Greek myth of Achilles. When he received his famous wound in battle, the Greek goddess Aphrodite treated him with yarrow. The healing power of yarrow is much more than the myth of its namesake. It smells sweet, camphorous and herbaceous.

These oils can be very potent if applied on their own. They need to be mixed with carrier oils. Laguna has all these above mentioned oils carefully formulated keeping the ratios in mind.
